How can I receive and pay my rates?

Register for Electronic Rates Notices

Did you know that you can receive your rates notices via email, it's easy to sign up.

Visit sthgrampians.enotices.com.au click on the "Sign Up" tab and follow the below instructions.

Step 1
Enter your email address and eNotice Reference Number (as shown on your rate notice).

Step 2
Check your email inbox and click the validation link.
It lasts 48 hours!

Step 3
Choose a password & enter your mobile number.

That's it! You will now receive notices in your inbox, and can login to view them online at anytime.

Pay by QR code

The recently redesigned rates notice introduces a QR code payment function.

Scanning the QR code will direct you to a website where you can process the payment securely using your credit card or bank details.

Pay by Direct Debit

If you wish to pay your current years rates weekly, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly via Direct Debit please visit sthgrampians.enotices.com.au/autodebit and follow the below instructions.

Step 1
Enter in your email address and eNotice Reference Number.

Step 2
Check your email inbox and click the validation link.

Step 3
Select a password and mobile number.

Step 4
Select your frequency of payment and start date and enter your bank or credit card details.


Please note that Direct Debit is not available for "Early Instalment Payment With 2% Discount" or the payment of arrears rates.

Pay Online

Using BPay - biller code 25304
If you haven't used BPay before, you will need to contact your participating Bank, Credit Union or Building Society to register for Internet banking. Once registered, use BPay Biller Code 25304 and reference number shown on your rate notice.

Using POST billpay - billpay code 2330
To register visit www.postbillpay.com.au or if you are already registered you can pay by credit card here. Use POST billpay code 2330.

Pay by Phone

Using BPay - biller code 25304
Once registered for phone banking with your financial institution, telephone the number they have provided and follow the instructions given to make your payment. You will need to key in the BPay Biller Code 25304 and reference number shown on your rate notice.

Using POST billpay - billpay code 2330
For the cost of a local call (mobiles excepted), phone 13 18 16 - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Quote the POST billpay code 2330 and reference number on the rate notice. Pay from your credit card or, after registration, your cheque or savings account. Register your cheque or saving account by phoning 13 18 16 at least 10 working days before making your payment.

Pay in Person

Present your rate notice intact, with your payment to any Australia Post Office, or at either of Council's Business Centres, 111 Brown Street, Hamilton or 1 Market Place, Hamilton.

Pay by Mail

Detach the credit section and mail with your cheque (made payable to Southern Grampians Shire Council) in the reusable envelope to:

The top portion of the notice should be retained for your records.

Postal delays will not be accepted as an excuse for late payment.

Discount for Early Payment

For the convenience of ratepayers who prefer to make only one payment each year and as an incentive for early payment, a discount will be allowed where the full amount for the year (less the discount) is paid on or before 30 September, excluding any arrears of rates and charges outstanding from previous years. The fire service property levy is not subject to the discount.

For the discount to apply payments must be received by the due date, whether by post, Billpay, Bpay or in person.

Rates Payment Arrangements

If you are experiencing difficulties that may prevent you from paying your rates and charges by the due date, you can apply for a payment arrangement. This arrangement will enable you to pay your rates regularly on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. Please note that interest will continue to accrue.

Request a Rates Refund

There are many reasons a refund may be required for a payment you have made against your own or someone else’s rates. Examples include:

  • Overpaid rates

  • Multiple payments

  • Payment to a previously owned property

  • Receiving a rebate after paying your rates

General Hardship Application

If you are having difficulty paying outstanding rates, you may be able to apply for rate relief. Please fill out our General Hardship Application Form, or call Council Customer Service on 5573 0444.
