Council and Emergency Management

Councils role in emergencies

Council supports emergency services including CFA, SES, Police and Department of Health and Human Services to plan cooperatively for prevention of, response to and recovery from emergencies.

During emergencies Council works with emergency services to provide resources, local knowledge and community connections.

Council coordinates the relief and recovery efforts after the initial emergency has passed. This includes establishing relief centres for people who have been affected by disasters and need assistance.

Council plays a key role in preparing the Municipal Emergency Management Plan and in the related hazard specific plans for fire, flood, health and recovery.

Municipal Emergency Management Plan

The Municipal Emergency Management Plan considers the range of emergencies that our community might be faced with.

The emergency and support agencies on the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee collectively produce and own this plan. The plan provides local emergency planning needs and works within Regional and State plans.

The Southern Grampians Shire Municipal Emergency Management Plan has a number of sub plans for different hazards and functions.

  • Airport emergencies

Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee

The MEMPC comprises emergency services and support agencies that operate in Southern Grampians Shire. Their primary task is to plan in a collaborative manner to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
