Australia Day Ambassador for 2019 announced

14 January 2019

Southern Grampians Shire Council is pleased to announce Sally Tucker as the Australia Day Ambassador attending the official 2019 Southern Grampians Shire Australia Day Celebrations on 26 January.

Sally is a senior sports business professional, experienced in sales and business development, sponsorship and commercial partnerships, marketing and event management. She currently works at Cricket Australia as the Corporate Sales Manager for Victoria. Sally is also involved in raising funds for prostate cancer research as a devoted member of the Women @ The Alfred committee, and has a keen interest in mental health and bullying in the work place.

Sally has worked with some iconic Melbourne events over her career, including the F1 Australian Grand Prix, Melbourne Fashion Festival, Spring Racing Carnival, and AFL and international cricket held at the MCG. Her love of food and wine led her to managing the gourmet David Jones Food hall in the 90s, and hospitality, wellness and sport experiences at other organisations, including Government House, the Park Hyatt, Mansion Hotel in Werribee and The Heritage Yarra Valley.

Vivacious and with a great appetite for life, Sally has continually challenged the status quo. She is a hardworking mother, a driven person and is proud to be an Australia Day ambassador, a role she has held for many years.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr Mary-Ann Brown said “We are very pleased to have Sally Tucker visiting Hamilton as the Shire’s ambassador for Australia Day. I am sure that the community will be inspired listening as Sally speaks about her determined and energetic approach to life and her love for our country.”

The Australia Day Ambassador program sends high achieving Australians to over 300 community celebrations nationwide every Australia Day. Ambassadors are sportspeople, scientists, businesspeople, actors and community workers who provide added inspiration and pride to Australia Day events and activities. The Australia Day Ambassador Program is coordinated by Australia Day Councils and Committees in each state and territory.

Hamilton’s Australia Day celebrations will take place at the Botanic Gardens from 10:30am and will include flag-raising, musical performances by local artists, citizenship ceremony, presentation of the Australia Day awards and a free BBQ.
