Council is calling on the Southern Grampians Community to get creative and join in the One Million Stars to End Violence project with the Hamilton Library!
One Million Stars to End Violence is a peaceful global weaving project that seeks to engage communities in a conversation about ending all forms of violence. The project represents how monumental the task of ending violence is and that everyone needs to participate if we want to see to end all forms of violence. Each star represents a person’s commitment to practise light, hope, courage and solidarity and the one million stars installation will be a peaceful statement against all forms of violence in our communities.
Council encourages anyone interested in learning more about the project or being a part of it, to come along to a Star Weave workshop. The workshops will be held every Monday morning starting 20 February, from 11am to 12noon in the Hamilton Library with all materials supplied.
The goal is to weave as many Stars as possible by the end of June, to add to a growing installation of Stars to End Violence at the Hamilton Library. From there, our Star will be sent to the Gold Coast, where they will be joined by Stars from all over the world in one large installation to be displayed during the 2018 Commonwealth Games as part of Festival 2018.
Community groups, organisations and business are also encouraged to come on board. Star Weavers are available to visit workplaces to conduct a tutorial by contacting Chris Jenkins at the Library on 55730 470 or via email library@sthgrampians.vic.gov.au
