Road Closures and Changes to Bridge Load Limits

31 July 2017

Southern Grampians Shire Council wishes to advise that recent bridge inspections undertaken by structural engineers have identified concerns regarding five bridges/culverts within the Southern Grampians Shire.

Based on the recommendations, Council has decided in the best interest of public safety to close one bridge and impose load limits on a number of others.

The following changes are now in place:

Louden Youngs Road, Hamilton crossing Violet Creek, is closed until further notice.

Load limits are now in place on the following bridges and a reduced speed limit to 40km per hour also applies:

• Louth Swamp Road, Byaduk “Whites Bridge” crossing Weerangourt Creek (limited to six tonne)
• Nareen Road crossing Sugarloaf Creek Culla (limited to 10 tonne)
• Loats Road, Murphy Creek (limited to six tonne)
• Byaduk-Ardoon Road, Lyne Creek (limited to six tonne)

Council expects these load limits to be in place for a prolonged period as work is undertaken to rectify the issues identified, including drafting of specialised design.

Council apologises for any inconvenience these works may cause. For further information or assistance please don’t hesitate to contact council on 03 5573 0256.
