Join us for Harmony Day

16 March 2018

Southern Grampians Shire Council is celebrating the cultural diversity of the Greater Hamilton region to mark Harmony Day on 21 March.

Residents are encouraged to reflect on the importance of inclusion, respecting each other and celebrating our differences at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre Forecourt next Wednesday from 11:30am til 1pm.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Mary-Ann Brown said Council wanted to celebrate this year’s national Harmony Day by showcasing the region’s strong spirit of inclusiveness.

“We wanted to mark Harmony Day this year to promote a sense of belonging for everyone and also to welcome and celebrate those from other nations who have chosen to call our region home,” Cr Brown said.

“Our event is to remind the community why our growing cultural diversity is one of our regions greatest assets and that we are stronger because of it.

“There will be a variety of music and entertainment acts on offer, including an African drumming performance by one of our newest residents Cyprien who has moved to the region as part of the Economic Migration Project. We’ll have free lunch on offer as well so we’d like to see as many people as possibly coming along to share in the day.

“We want everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, to come along and have fun and appreciate that our differences make our community a great place to live,” Cr Brown said.
