Celebrate New Years Eve with Fireworks

21 December 2017

Southern Grampians Shire will support New Year’s Eve celebrations in Hamilton with a spectacular fireworks display at Melville Oval.

The New Year’s Eve Fireworks display will commence at 10.30pm on Saturday 31 December 2017. This display is planned in conjunction with activities organised by the Hamilton North Rotary Club, and will be accessible to the entire community.

The New Year’s Eve street party will begin at 7.00pm and this year has moved to the Melville Oval Netball Courts, making it closer to the fireworks action. The Street Party will include live music, hot food and drinks, giveaways, a raffle and plenty of entertainment for the kids, including Wal the Magician, laser tag, Rotary Train rides, face painting, giant slides and other amusements.

Entry to Melville Oval to view the fireworks display will be permitted from the gates on Brown Street, and people are invited to congregate on the Alexandra House side of the oval. Access to the oval surface is strictly prohibited.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr. Mary-Ann Brown said Council is pleased to support New Year’s Eve celebrations in Hamilton by providing a fireworks display.

“This is a wonderful event for our community each and every year. We commend the event organisers who have volunteered their time during the holiday season to plan and implement this New Year’s Eve party, and I look forward to seeing many residents and visitors enjoying themselves in our region,” Cr Brown said.

To ensure public safety we invite everyone to enter the oval to view the display, as there will be no road closure in place in Brown Street. Spectators enjoying the fireworks display are reminded to be aware of traffic in the area and are advised that normal road rules apply.

People with pets are also advised that pets may become disturbed by the sound of the fireworks. Please ensure that you take necessary precautions to keep them safe and secure during the evening.
