Celebrate New Year's Eve with fireworks

20 December 2019

Council are once again delighted to welcome in the New Year in Greater Hamilton with a spectacular fireworks display on New Year’s Eve 2019.

The New Year’s Eve fireworks display will commence at 10.30pm on Tuesday 31 December 2019 at Hamilton’s Melville Oval. The display is planned as a finale to the free New Year’s Eve street party organised by the Rotary Club of Hamilton North.

The street party kicks off at 7.00pm and will again take over the Melville Oval netball courts, close to the fireworks action. This family-friendly, alcohol-free event include live music from local musicians, hot food and drinks, ice cream and candy, a raffle and plenty of entertainment for the kids, including amusement rides, laser tag, Rotary Train rides, a mini fire truck, face painting and temporary tattoos.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr. Chris Sharples invites the Greater Hamilton community to join in the celebrations.

“This is a wonderful event for our community each and every year. We commend the event organisers who have volunteered their time during the holiday season to plan and implement this New Year’s Eve party. I encourage all those who are staying in the region over the break to take the opportunity to come down and get involved in the festivities,” Cr Sharples said.

Entry to the designated viewing area within the Melville Oval precinct is from the gates on Brown St /Lonsdale St or Thompson St/Lonsdale St. To ensure safe viewing distances from the firing site, access to the turfed oval itself and the Market Place side of Melville Oval is strictly prohibited, and this includes access to the grandstand. A site map will be made available on the “Greater Hamilton NYE Fireworks” Facebook event and on entrance gates on the night.

Traffic management will be in place around the Melville Oval precinct and spectators and motorists are reminded to be aware of traffic and abide to normal road rules.

People with pets are also reminded that their animals may become disturbed by the sound of the fireworks. Please ensure necessary precautions are taken to keep them safe and secure during the evening.

Attendees are encouraged to share their event experiences on social media by tagging @visitgreaterhamilton and using #visitgreaterhamilton throughout the holiday period.
