Cr Jayne Manning grew up on the Mornington Peninsula before moving to Melbourne to study science. Jayne majored in microbiology (BSc, University of Melbourne) and went on to complete a Masters of Biotechnology in clinical microbiology (RMIT). She commenced working at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) in 2010 as a research assistant with the Pneumococcal Research Group, where she studied the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, and gained a passion for research. Jayne completed her PhD through the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, University of Melbourne, investigating strategies for the prevention of pneumococcal nasopharyngeal colonisation and disease, and continued working for MCRI until 2019.

In 2015 Jayne moved to Western Victoria and lives in Glenthompson on a third-generation sheep farm with her husband and young family. Since 2019 she has supported a local garlic farming business establish their food safety systems in a Quality Assurance role, in addition to working on the family farm.

Jayne is an active member of local sporting and community clubs, performing the roles of secretary, treasurer, committee member and junior coach across a variety of organisations.

Jayne is excited to undertake her first term in local council and seeks to bring a scientific approach to decision making and energy to the role.
