Christmas Window Competition Winners Announced!

The annual Christmas Window Decoration Competition is a Southern Grampians Shire tradition that we really look forward to around here, and this year was an absolute cracker.

We had 19 entries from across the Shire, shops and businesses that put in an enormous effort to bring joy and spirit to our streets.

This year we had a judge’s choice and a popular vote as well as some honourable mentions in order to do justice to the amazing displays we’ve seen.

Firstly, the judges were stunned by the beautiful and elegant decorations in the window of Brown Bird Haus in Hamilton. If you’ve ever stepped foot in this shop, you won’t be surprised by the tasteful and elegant attention to detail displayed in their windows. A huge congratulations to their team for bringing an extremely high level of sophistication and style year-round.

Then the community came out in droves to vote for the people’s champions, Bellcourt Books. This beloved Hamilton hallmark has been a gathering place, a beloved mainstay and a source of pride for the town for generations. Their engaging and knowledgeable staff embody the spirit that if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right!

There was initially no plan to award an honourable mention, let alone two but the standard was so high that exceptions had to be made.

The first honourable mention goes to the team at Tosca Browns in Hamilton for their incredible display of lights that even the McCallisters would be jealous of. Toscas is an absolute gem, and their fabulous decorations have made a huge difference to Gray Street in Hamilton this Christmas.

With another honourable mention, please join us in congratulating Patience Petal in Penshurst. A positive palace of pink, this exquisitely charming shop is a family run store that’s far too easy to lose an afternoon in.

Finally, everyone who got out and voted for their favourite shopfronts was entered into a draw for a further prize and this has been won by Matthew Gebert.

A massive thank you to all businesses for their wonderful displays. You have done a power of work to brighten up our towns and the community are extremely grateful.

We wish everyone a very safe and happy festive season and a prosperous new year!
