As part of the ongoing Hamilton CBD Revitalisation Project, Southern Grampians Shire Council will be undertaking preliminary underground checks in the coming weeks.

Council has engaged specialised contractors to perform background checks to assess the condition of stormwater pipes and pits along Gray Street in Hamilton. Beginning Monday 31 March, this important work will help us understand how our underground infrastructure is holding up and give us a comprehensive understanding of what needs replacing and what needs upgrading.

It is common over time for roots, particularly those from large trees, to make their way into stormwater systems and cause issues such as blockages or structural damage.

This updated assessment will be comparing to previous 2018 report to check everything below ground is functioning as it should before revitalisation works continue above ground.

Key dates for this work:

  • Monday 31 March: Pre-inspection, stormwater cleaning, and post-inspection begins along Gray Street.
  • Tuesday 1 April: Works continue along the same area.

Residents and businesses may notice some minor activity in the area during these works, but every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum.

These early assessments play a crucial role in informing the work that will occur as part of the CBD revitalisation project.
