LOVE YOUR LOCAL THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON
As Christmas fast approaches, Southern Grampians Shire Council is inviting residents to spread holiday cheer close to home by shopping local for gifts this season.
With a vast range of stores offering everything from handcrafted goods to one-of-a-kind finds, the Shire’s main streets are set to shine, ready to fulfill everyone’s holiday wishlist.
Southern Grampians Shire Council CEO, Tony Doyle encourages residents to love their local this Christmas.
“Shopping locally doesn’t just make gift-giving easier and faster; importantly it puts money back into our local economy. Every dollar spent in our local stores helps sustain jobs, supports local families, and enriches our main streets with the kind of unique charm that chain stores just can’t replicate.
“We’re very fortunate with the range and variety of retail options we have available to us in the Southern Grampians. Many of these are family-owned or run by people we know. Supporting these shops and services this festive season keeps local families fed, keeps kids in our schools and volunteers on our teams. Many of these businesses proudly support the community through sponsorships and other ventures so it’s really important that we return that goodwill back to those businesses.”
Southern Grampians Shire is blessed with a unique retail landscape, including delightful book and toy shops, chic clothing boutiques, and specialty gift stores. The shire also boasts a wide variety of health, beauty and fitness services, great restaurants and cafes, bars and wineries.
“The gift options when you shop locally are endless. This year, we’re asking everyone to ‘Love your Local’ and setting the challenge to buy all your gifts locally—it could make an enormous difference to our community,” concluded Mr. Doyle.
Planning for Christmas festivities in the Shire is in the final stages, and residents can look forward to cheerful window displays, late-night shopping, the St Mary’s Parade and the Christmas Busking Competition to enliven streets this holiday season.

“Remember, the cheer goes further when you shop local. Support your town, uplift your community and spread a little extra magic right here at home,” concluded Mr Doyle.
