Tender Awarded for Repairs to Hamilton Olympic Swimming Pool

Southern Grampians Shire Council has awarded a $452,020 contract for essential repairs to the Hamilton Olympic Swimming Pool. Following the 14 August Council meeting, Council committed to performing critical works that will ensure this key community asset continues to serve the region for years to come.

Planned works will include repairs and compliance upgrades to water channels, concrete, grates, and the access ramp, along with a complete refurbishment of the pool shell.

These improvements are essential in bringing the facility in line with modern health and safety standards, guaranteeing a safer and more enjoyable experience for all users.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor David Robertson said the Hamilton Outdoor Pool plays a vital role in the community’s wellbeing and public health.

“The Hamilton Outdoor pool is a well-used and well-loved resource that has been serving our community for decades,” said Cr Robertson.

“We know that there are many people in our region that use this pool every summer. As with any asset, years of wear and tear mean that the pool is now starting to show its age, so these works are critical to ensure that the Hamilton Pool can continue to provide this tremendous service for years to come.”

A thorough leak investigation was carried out in March which identified rectification works that must be completed prior to the opening of the 2024/25 season to ensure compliance standards set by Royal Lifesaving, Lifesaving Victoria and the Water Quality Guidelines for Public Aquatic Facilities are met.

These repairs will likely see the Hamilton Outdoor Pool season pushed back from November to the beginning of December, which will align with the outer township pool season.

“Council acknowledges that this delay may be disappointing for some; but the reality is without these essential works, the pool would risk not opening at all this season due to the OHS risk to swimmers.

“The upgraded facilities will breathe new life into our ageing pool, providing a safer, more enjoyable environment that will allow our community to continue enjoying summers in the water.

“We are confident that the short delay will be worth the long-term benefits these improvements will bring,” concluded Cr Robertson.
