Two significant programs aimed at enhancing our community and supporting local businesses kick off this week in the Southern Grampians Shire. Starting 1 July, both the Business Facade Improvement Program and the Community Partnership Grants will open for applications.

The Business Facade Improvement Program is designed to help businesses with street frontage to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of their buildings. This program offers up to $3,000 in funding for physical works such as painting, cleaning, signage updates, repairs, and minor maintenance. As an added incentive, the Council will waive planning permit fees (though relevant building permit fees still apply).

Southern Grampians Shire Mayor David Robertson expressed enthusiasm for the program saying, “This initiative comes from direct feedback from our business community. By improving the look and feel of our business precincts, we not only boost individual businesses but also enhance the overall charm of our townships.”

Key Details of the Program:

  • Dollar-for-dollar matching grants: Council will match business investment up to $3,000 (excluding GST).
  • Eligibility: Open to all businesses in the Southern Grampians with street frontage. Applicants must complete the Business Facade Improvement Program application form online, including all necessary documentation.
  • Conditions: Successful businesses have until the end of May 2025 to complete proposed works and must submit all associated documentation, including invoices and proof of works, for reimbursement.

The Community Partnership Grants Program also opens for application this week for the 2024/25 financial year. This program provides vital financial support for community groups and individuals to launch key projects and innovative ideas. Grants offer up to $15,000 per financial year for initiatives, events, and projects that benefit the Southern Grampians Shire.

To assist applicants, the Council will conduct a series of information sessions across the Shire:

  • Tuesday, 16 July 2024: Coleraine (Catching Pen) from 10:00am – 12:00pm, Balmoral Hall from 1:00pm – 3:00pm
  • Wednesday, 17 July 2024: Cavendish Hall from 10:00am – 12:00pm, Dunkeld Visitor Information Centre from 1:00pm – 3:00pm
  • Thursday, 18 July 2024: Penshurst Hall from 10:00am – 12:00pm, Glenthompson Hall from 1:00pm – 3:00pm

Hamilton Sessions:

  • Friday, 5, 12, 19 & 26 July 2024: Greater Hamilton Library from 10:00am – 2:00pm

Mayor Councillor David Robertson emphasised the importance of these grants stating, “We love seeing the innovative ideas our community brings forward each year. Our Community Development Officers will be available to help guide applicants through the process, ensuring everyone has the support they need.”

The Community Partnership Grants cover a broad range of categories, including Community Infrastructure, Arts and Cultural Development, Community Strengthening, Tourism and Events, Environmental Sustainability, and Heritage.

Applications for both programs close on 31 July 2024.
