Southern Grampians Shire Council is celebrating a surge in visitor spending this March, with total visitor spending up by 22% or $1.68 million compared to last year. This remarkable increase can be attributed to a series of successful events held throughout the region, showcasing Hamilton's rich cultural and entertainment offerings.

The standout event was the "Emerging from Darkness" exhibition in Hamilton Gallery, which drew visitors from near and far to experience the vibrant arts scene in the Southern Grampians Shire. Emerging From Darkness showcased significant European works in Australia for the first time in Hamilton and helped play a pivotal role in boosting local spending and supporting the community's businesses.

In addition, the 2024 Cush Street Stock National Titles at Hamilton Speedway held March 8 to 10, and the Messier Star Party at Hamilton Harness Racing Club on March 9th and 10th, attracted enthusiasts and travellers, further driving visitor spending in the dining and entertainment sectors, with the region experiencing an incredible 54% increase in visitor spending, amounting to $108,892 more than the same period in 2023.

The events over the last few months have been such a pleasure to attend," said Mayor Councillor David Robertson.

“These events breathe so much life into the region and remind us what a great little corner of the world we’ve carved out. The money that comes into local businesses helps send kids to local schools and goes back to restaurants and shops in our region. We all want to bring money in and to keep it in our area, it’s just amazing to see how hard the community has worked towards that goal.”

The festivities continued with the Sow and Savor Soirée, the 2024 Koonara Summer Fiesta, the Balmoral Easter Market and the farmers craft market Penshurst all contributed to the region's appeal, drawing visitors and encouraging them to explore the enchanting experiences that the Southern Grampians Shire has to offer.

Southern Grampians Shire Council looks forward to building on this success and continuing to foster growth through a dynamic calendar of events and attractions. For more information on upcoming events, visit the SGSC website or What’s On|Visit Greater Hamilton
