Southern Grampians Shire Council is excited to announce an upcoming information session for individuals interested in running in the Council elections this year. This ‘Stand for Council’ session aims to provide valuable insights and guidance for potential candidates.

Event Details:

  • Date: 19 August 2024
  • Time: 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
  • Venue: Hamilton Cinema

This session will include a panel of speakers including former Councillors, Current Mayor of Corangamite Kate Makin and CEO of Corangamite David Rae.

Southern Grampians Shire Mayor David Robertson shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Running for Council is the ultimate form of community service.”

“It is an interesting, challenging, occasionally frustrating role that will test you throughout, but it is ultimately an incredibly rewarding undertaking. My experience in Council has been very impactful for me and has taught me so much. It is an honour to be selected to represent your friends, neighbours and fellow community members but it is also a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

He added, “Elections can be trying, and the work can be difficult but there is a certain type of individual well suited to the role. I hope that we see many of these individuals put their hands up for this year’s election.”

The information session will cover the roles and responsibilities of a Councillor, the election process, and the support available to candidates. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the positive effect you can have in your community and how to effectively campaign for a position on the Council.
