The GPT100 Dunkeld Trail Races are new in 2024 and are a way for this incredible run to engage with the beautiful town of Dunkeld, the iconic start/finish location of the Grampians Peaks Trail, in the Southern Grampians. It is a collaborative effort between the GPT100 team of SingleTrack Events, the Peaks and Trails organisers and volunteers, and the Southern Grampians Shire.
Dunkeld has a small population of just over 600 and is a well-known town for those who seek adventure and fine food in the foothills of Gariwerd country. Nestled below Mount Sturgeon (Wurgarri) and with views of Mt Abrupt (Mud-Dadjug) the town has a strikingly beautiful backdrop that entices the adventurer within. With many local businesses keeping the main street thriving, the town is the ideal place to spend a day or two or five and soak it all in.
The addition of these two community fueled races on Saturday morning will see the town rally around the whole weekend of Trail Running. The idea is to bring out the local families to get a taste of the GPT100 event and to give those who have already ran their race a chance to support the town by getting their kids and family involved.
Starting on Saturday morning these races aim to finish just before the finish of the first runners of the GPT100Miler. These runners and teams start on Friday at Mount Zero at Midday and will have completed the entire Grampians Peaks Trail by sometime around 10am Saturday morning. It will be a joy for them to finish to the roars of the Dunkeld community. We hope once the community comes to experience the joy and pain of a 100-mile finish line, that they will periodically check in and celebrate the rest of the finishers of the race through to 5pm Sunday.
