Apply for a Planning Permit
A Planning Permit is a legal document that gives permission for a use or development on a particular piece of land.
To obtain a permit, an application must be made to Council's Planning Department via an online portal called Greenlight. You will be asked to register an account with Greenlight, which you only need to do once.
If a permit can be granted under the planning scheme and the proposal merits support, Council will grant a Planning Permit with written conditions and endorse (stamp) plans that show what is approved for the land.
Successful applicants must satisfy all the conditions on a planning permit and comply with the endorsed plans.
Any changes to the planning permit or endorsed plans must be approved by Council. Minor changes can usually be assessed under secondary consent, as permitted by the permit. More significant changes, including any change to the permit preamble or conditions, must be assessed in accordance with section 72 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 as a full amendment.
Please contact Council’s Planning Department is you propose to change the use of land, subdivide land, develop land or remove any vegetation from land, including within road reserves. A Planning Consultant can also be engaged to provide professional assistance in preparing planning permit applications for lodgement with Council and manage the project to completion.
Timeframe of a Planning Permit
Each Planning Permit has a condition that states the timeframe that development, use or certification must be started and completed within for the permit to be valid. It is possible to request an extension of time if the permit is due to expire or has recently expired. Please ensure you fill out the relevant documentation and pay the required fee for your request to be considered.
To apply for an extension, please login via Southern Grampians Greenlight.
