Welcoming New Residents to our Shire

6 May 2019

Southern Grampians Shire Council, is hosting its annual New Residents function on Wednesday 29 May 2019 at the Hub Hamilton providing an opportunity for our newest residents to network, build connections with community groups, while meeting like-minded newcomers to the region.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr Mary-Ann Brown said the night was important to assist new residents to transition to and connect with the local community.

“We have found that people move to our region for job opportunities or family reasons and can sometimes find it difficult to meet new people and make connections outside of their work environment,” Cr Brown said.

“Sometimes they just don’t know where to go to make the connection, or even know what opportunities are available. This event aims to make this transition more comfortable, taking away the pressure of reaching out to make new connections – this is a room full of friendly faces wanting to make new friends.

“We know this is a wonderful place to work and live and we want our newest residents to immerse themselves in all of the great opportunities that are out there – this is a get-together aimed at pointing them in the right direction,” Cr Brown said.

Cr Brown also encouraged local leaders of various services, organisations, sporting clubs and service groups to attend the event, meet the new residents and potentially recruit their support.

“There are so many incredible clubs and groups that operate in our region that present an invaluable opportunity for new residents to get involved in the community, no matter what their interest. I welcome all of our community groups to get in touch with us to register their interest in attending the function,” Cr Brown said.

The New Residents function starts at 5.30pm in shop 10 at the Hub and light refreshments will be served. To register your attendance, please email or call 5573 0444 prior to Wednesday May 22, 2019.
