The newest members of the region are invited to attend the annual Southern Grampians Shire Council’s New Residents Function on Monday 31 May 2021 from 6:00pm at the Greater Hamilton Library.
This year brings fresh opportunity for the newest members of our region to make connections with community groups and meet some of the locals that make Southern Grampians Shire a welcoming place to live and work.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr Bruach Colliton said it is great to be back in 2021 after last year’s event was unable to be held due to the pandemic.
“It was a challenge in 2020 for most of us to stay connected - so for those who moved to the area during this time - they will have had quite limited opportunity to meet new people and to create genuine connections.
“The New Resident’s Function is the perfect evening for new faces to transition into the community, to get involved with groups and organisations, and just as importantly – to meet like-minded new friends,” said Cr Colliton.
This year’s event will also recognise and celebrate the incredible work local volunteers do for the region and is supported by Community Events funding received from the Commonwealth and State Government of Victoria.
Cr Colliton said being able to celebrate volunteers at the same event is the perfect opportunity for newcomers to build connections and meet some of the quintessential locals that make extraordinary contributions to our region.
“National Volunteers Week takes place from 17 – 24 May 2021. Although our event this year falls just outside that week, we’re also going to use the opportunity to show our appreciation and celebrate the people who make Southern Grampians a beautiful and safe place to call home.
“We are so incredibly lucky to have such dedicated volunteers service and protect our region, the addition of having volunteers represented at the New Residents function provides us with an opportunity to say thank you whilst also providing new residents a chance to connect to these groups,” said Cr Colliton.
Volunteer organisations, recreation, and community groups are invited to attend to provide information and answer questions new residents may have about settling in the region.
