Statement from the Mayor - Resignation of CEO Michael Tudball

7 July 2021

Yesterday, Council regrettably accepted the resignation of Chief Executive Officer, Michael Tudball.

Michael commenced as CEO with the Southern Grampians Shire in March 2016 following four and a half years at Melton City Council. This was preceded by over seven years in State Government with Victorian Communities and Planning & Community Development.

Michael arrived at the Southern Grampians when the organisation, the community and the Council were at a crossroads and has admirably led the organisation to where we are today. While there are further improvements that can made, Michael has driven the organisation to deliver on its commitments and earned great respect within the community and at all levels of government. Michael has brought a renewed positive professional culture to Southern Grampians and we thank him for the contribution he has made to our organisation and our community. His leadership, energy and commitment to the Council and the Southern Grampians community and its people will be greatly missed.

Council understands Michael's intention is to ultimately move closer to family but remain in regional and western Victoria. He is looking forward to his new role as Director South West with Department of Transport and we are looking forward to hopefully getting our fair share in Southern Grampians.

Council will now commence the process of recruiting for a new Chief Executive Officer. An external recruitment company will be appointed to assist in our search, to take our Council, Organisation and Community to the next level once again. Council will also consider the acting/interim arrangements while this recruitment occurs.

We all wish Michael the very best with the next chapter and look forward to working with him in his new role. We welcome him continuing to be an active community member in Hamilton for the next few months until ultimately relocating.
