Coleraine Flood Investigation Consultation Session

12 July 2017

Members of the Coleraine community are invited to an information session for the Coleraine Flood Investigation project which has now commenced.

The information session will take place at the Coleraine Senior Citizens Centre, 16 Henty Street – next Wednesday evening, 19 July starting at 7pm.

The session will provide an introduction to the project team and outline the project plan and objectives. It will also be an important opportunity for community members to contribute their knowledge of flooding and historical flood information (such as photographs or historical accounts) to the project. Any information that community members can provide about floods that occurred before the event of September 2016 (such as the 1983 and 1946 events) will be especially valuable.

The Coleraine Flood Investigation follows the flood of September 2016 which is thought to have been the worst experienced by Coleraine since March 1946.

The project has been funded by the Victorian State Government and will be delivered by Venant Solutions in association with Michael Cawood and Associates and the Hamilton based Utilis Consulting. Glenelg Hopkins CMA who is the Regional Floodplain Management Authority is assisting Southern Grampians Shire Council in managing this project.

The project will be completed in the second half of 2018 and will deliver for the first time, a robust understanding of flood risk at Coleraine. The information produced by the investigation will provide for improved response to future flood emergencies and will identify options for reducing the impact of future floods in Bryan and Konongwootong Creeks.

If you have any questions about the information session or the project please email the Southern Grampians Shire at colerainefloodstudy@sthgrampians.vic.gov.au or phone Graeme Jeffery at the Glenelg Hopkins CMA on 5571 2526.
