Council Hosts Successful New Residents Function

29 May 2018

Southern Grampians Shire Council hosted its annual new residents function last night at the Hamilton Visitor Information Centre, with over 60 people in attendance.

The function is an informal opportunity to welcome people who have moved to the Greater Hamilton region in the past 12 to 18 months.

A variety of information about various service and sporting clubs was made available to the new residents along with information about Council services and programs. Southern Grampians Shire Councillors were on hand to meet with new residents and speak with them about any questions or issues they may have had since moving to the Shire.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr Mary-Ann Brown was pleased with how well the function went and thanked everyone for their attendance.

“It was so wonderful to see so many new faces in the room last night. We are so blessed to have people in our region from right across the globe, all of whom bring a wealth of knowledge, culture and experience to our shire. The Greater Hamilton region is an exceptional place to live, raise a family and work and I’m pleased that so many residents came out last night to meet new people and familiarise themselves with the many different aspects of life to be lived and enjoyed here,” Cr Brown said.

“It was particularly pleasing to see a mini-bus of newcomers make their way in from Glenthompson – one of our smallest communities – and also all three of the families who have moved to Hamilton as part of the Great South Coast Economic Migration Project.

“Thank you must also go to the volunteers that came along from the various sporting and service clubs and community groups for helping us give these newcomers, such a warm welcome.

“I encourage any new residents that were not able to attend last night to contact Council to register to attend future functions,” Cr Brown concluded.
