The search for the 2018 Southern Grampians Shire Business of the Year has begun, with nominations opening today for the annual Business Awards.
Proudly supported by naming rights sponsor Telstra, the awards are now in their 22nd year. Telstra has a strong history of support for business awards and Council are proud to once again partner with them, alongside long-serving supporters the Ace Radio network and the Hamilton Spectator.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Mary-Ann Brown said the awards were one of her favourite events of the year as it provides an opportunity to uncover and celebrate the region’s business success stories.
“The business awards provide a framework for peer recognition which fosters a culture of excellence, development and leadership among our business community. They celebrate success and applaud those who are really making their mark on our region.
“Last year’s awards were an outstanding success and with judge Kevin Bennett on board once again, we are anticipating an exciting process and presentation evening in 2018.
“Kevin has vast experience in coaching, mentoring and working with businesses to improve their processes and performance and we are grateful to have him. He will again work with businesses that enter the awards to review their operations and provide feedback on improving business processes,” Cr Brown said.
Waltanna Farms, winner of the 2017 Business of the Year, encouraged other businesses to look at entering this year’s awards.
“Participating in, and winning, the 2017 Southern Grampians Shire Business Awards was an exercise that Waltanna Farms gained more from than just the award itself,” said owners Michael and Bronnie Nagorcka.
“Going through the application and interview process challenged us to stand back and spend time on the business. This enabled us to realign with old goals and strategies and look to create new opportunities that further develop our innovative and ‘can do’ culture.
“All businesses have something to offer, there is real benefit in participating in the SGSC business awards. Apply and you too could share the excitement and learnings we achieved last year,” Michael and Bronnie said.

The gala presentation evening will be held on 26 October 2018 at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre.
