Hamilton Gallery has lost its stature as a major destination. It's facility is falling behind counterparts, which will become increasingly problematic as State Government operational funding becomes more competitive.
The current building has reached capacity in its collection storage and requires new, dedicated storage areas to meet contemporary collection management standards.
The age of the building means significant maintenance costs are experienced. One of the most critical limitations of the present building is its inadequate climate control (temperature and climate at international museum standards). This presents a major obstacle to the Gallery’s programming as the Gallery can no longer meet the climate control requisites that satisfy contractual requirements for first class loans.
The project must ensure the latest developments in technology and museum design are incorporated to ensure a building that advances well into the future.
