Grants and Funding

Greater Grants Program

Council's Greater Grants Program provides support to community groups and individuals with money and in-kind support to undertake projects that help grow our economy, our volunteer base and our community.

The Greater Grants Program has several categories to achieve this

  • Arts & Culture
  • Community Infrastructure
  • Community Strengthening
  • Sustainability
  • Heritage & Restoration
  • Tourism & Events

The range of projects that are eligible for support are many

  • Does the veranda on the local hall need replacing?
  • Do you have ideas about renewable energy, waste management, or revegetation?
  • Does the local show have a great idea to attract more people to come along, maybe a little bit of funding is needed to make it happen?
  • Do you have a point of historical significance in your community and would like to promote further?
  • Is there a cultural event or activity you are planning
  • Do you have some great ideas on how to connect and build your local community?

Applying for a Greater Grant might be just what you or your group is looking for!

The Greater Grants Program is open all year around and applications will be assessed quarterly by the Greater Grants Assessment Team. Greater Grants is a competitive program so not all submissions may be successful.

Overall guidelines

  • In all submissions, a clear idea of how much funding is needed, and what it will be used for will be required
  • All projects must occur within the Southern Grampians Shire Local Government boundary
  • All applicants must have appropriate insurance and be in a sound financial position to undertake the project. Funding cannot be used for projects or events which have already happened
  • In some cases, in-kind support from the Council can be granted rather than cash. This can include the installation and dismantling by Council staff of temporary signage marquees, seating, access ramps and market umbrellas. This may also include payment for / waiving the cost of venue hire
  • Additional documents may be requested by the Greater Grants Assessment Team
  • Funds or in-kind support will only be made available to fundraising events and projects that meet all Greater Grants assessment criteria in the relevant category
  • All applicants will be required to complete an acquittal form at the conclusion of the funded project or event

Council encourages applicants to make contact with the appropriate officer to discuss your idea and your eligibility.
